What is it with car people and putting the year in their license plate?
![]() 07/15/2019 at 16:26 |

Not all car people, cheesy car people

It’s a ‘Mu rica ry Cogger.

When car is old, people ask nonstop - what year is that thing?
It’s clearly 2019 corolla. why do you ask?

One one hand, it’s great for avoiding some of the “What year is it?” questions.
But on the other hand, It feels like more of a trick for owners who want to brag about their cars.

Vanity plates are generally dumb, and this is coming from someone who wants one.

That’s why all my vanity plates would just say BB UUTTS

Seconding PartyPooper, it’s an out-driving-for-non-car-people thing. Somebody sees the car, the license plate will give them enough info to complete identification. “’40 Ford”, “62 Nova”, that kind of thing. Also, lack of imagination and bragging rights to the plate. “There are many/some like it, but this one is MINE”.

An American classic!

Same reason people get their kids names tattooed
So they won't forget :p

So what you’re saying is that if I get a 15FIESTA plate for my car, people will be impressed?
![]() 07/15/2019 at 16:35 |

You could have a pretty big collection of cars with a few variations...

Wait, you mean vanity plates may be there to serve the owner’s vanity?
![]() 07/15/2019 at 16:38 |

It must be fatigue, but I thought the plate read "68 Corgis"

Must be a big trunk.

Hello. I’d like my Cougar back, please. Thank you.

Can’t help with that, unfortunately.

“Yes.”

I dont know but speaking of plates I am kinda tempted to put this on my mustang.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 17:10 |

Is this ok?
![]() 07/15/2019 at 17:12 |

If only Corgis had Glidamatic suspensions....

I get that question all the time from people when we’re driving my Voyager.
I almost wanted a vanity plate, then I realized most people can’t/won’t read it anyway, so it wouldn’t help.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 17:35 |

To cut down on having to answer the same question over and over and over.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 17:37 |
|
You should get a vanity plate that says “69Voyeur”
Why?
Just because.

I saw 95E320 the other week, which I find funny because its not even old for historic plates here. It was a clean convertible, but still.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 18:08 |
|
That is borderline my ideal situation
![]() 07/15/2019 at 18:19 |
|
Why wouldn’t they just get a YOM plate ?
Side note, that’s so much cheaper in Saskatchewan than Ontario.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 18:25 |
|
I'm considering a personal plate because of how cheap it is.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 18:39 |

I contacted a plate dealer and got these for my truck. I don’t really like vanity plates.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 18:41 |

I never saw “what year is it” as a question to be avoided. Seems like a perfectly fine way to start a conversation with an owner who’d love to brag about his/her car IMO.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 18:47 |
|
Not sure about other states/provinces, but in MI you keep your plates and can transfer them from one car to the next . I’d hate to get a year-specific plate, eventually get rid of the car, and be faced with possibly having to put the plate on a car tha t doesn’t match it .
![]() 07/15/2019 at 18:50 |

So it's an old codger?
![]() 07/15/2019 at 19:29 |

I like the way Michigan does it. if you have a “historical” vehicle, you can apply to use an
authentic plate
from the year it was manufactured.way back up until the early ‘80
s or thereabouts, you’d get a new plate every year. you have to find and buy a license plate of that year and send them a picture, but you can register it.

It looks like it's the same rule for Saskatchewan.
![]() 07/15/2019 at 20:28 |
|
Yeah, looks good.
![]() 07/16/2019 at 03:47 |
|
i see no issue with it.
![]() 07/16/2019 at 07:07 |

I would be very impressed if by 2025 that 15 fiesta was still on the road

They used to have year specific plates. You see a ton of them at swap meets and car shows for sale. People looking for the same year as their car with some sort of other car specific stuff in the numbers.
